We stayed at Crater of Diamonds State park in late November of 2021. It is in southwestern Arkansas. It is quite a drive from the highway through some really pretty countryside. The main draw for this park is a large field that you can find diamonds and other precious stones in. It takes quite a bit of work to find them but people find something every day. There is a separate admission charge for diamond hunting, but I don't know what it is. The entry station is also the gift shop and a museum with interesting exhibits on diamond hunting in the area. You check in for the campground at the gift shop, but there isn't a sign to tell you that until you get to the campground. The campsites are beautiful, level, and well built. There are 2 short trails off of the campground loop. One takes you to the river. Half the loop is paved and easily walkable, the other half is a regular trail. I enjoyed this hike even though I ran out of daylight. The other trail goes to the visitor center/ gift shop. It is a wide, easy walk through the woods. I peeked in the fence to see what the diamond field looked like. We enjoyed this park and would go back as another overnight, but I am not interested in hunting for diamonds so wouldn't want to stay longer since there isn't much else to do there.
